Our technology is designed around a singular principle: ARCCS energy, energy that is Abundant, Renewable, Clean, Cheap, and Storable. These five criteria are non-negotiable for the Energy Revolution to succeed. While many clean-tech companies excel at being renewable and clean, they often fall short on the final two factors: cheap and storable. This bottleneck hinders the widespread adoption of clean energy. At Promex, we are tackling this challenge head-on with a solution that genuinely checks all the boxes.


Biogas: The Underestimated Catalyst

Edgar and I have been immersed in the biogas industry for years, both academically and professionally. We’ve always believed in its potential as a clean energy source, but its impact has been limited. Why? Because it hasn’t met the second “C” in ARCCS: cheap. Biogas production often relies on subsidies, making it unsustainable as a foundational energy source. After extensive discussions, Edgar and I identified the root causes of inefficiency and realized that biogas, with the right innovations, could serve as the ideal spark for the Vitality Era.

The Thermophilic Advantage

Biogas production hinges on a process called anaerobic digestion, where bacteria break down organic material without oxygen. These bacteria fall into two categories:


  1. Mesophilic bacteria (operating at ~30°C)

  2. Thermophilic bacteria (operating at ~50-60°C)


While mesophilic digestion is cheaper due to lower energy demands, thermophilic bacteria are the NFL players of anaerobic digestion. They work faster (digesting material in half the time), produce up to 30% more biogas, generate cleaner outputs (reducing contaminants like H2S by over 50%), and can process tougher, fibrous materials. Despite these advantages, the industry has avoided thermophilic digestion because maintaining 55°C at scale is expensive. But at Promex, we’ve found a way to overcome this challenge – keep reading to find out how.


CO2 Recirculation: Closing the Loop

One of the persistent challenges in biogas production is the high CO2 content, often 40-60%. While some companies liquefy the biogas and sell it to the food industry, others recirculate CO2 into reactors for a process called methanation. This process converts CO2 into methane by binding it with hydrogen. Methanation is a game-changer, and here’s how we’re innovating:


  1. Harnessing Solar Power for Electrolysis

    • Using solar panels, we power an electrolysis process to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. The hydrogen is then fed into our methanation reactor to combine with CO2, producing additional methane.

  2. Solving Excess Heat Problems

    • Methanation is an exothermic reaction, generating significant heat. Most companies struggle to dissipate this excess energy. At Promex, we saw an opportunity: we redirect this heat to maintain the 55°C required for thermophilic digestion. This symbiotic system solves two problems simultaneously.

  3. Scalability Without Organic Waste

    • Our system can function even without organic waste, as long as there is a reliable CO2 source. With excess CO2 available globally, this approach offers limitless scalability.


Triple the Methane, Triple the Impact

Our innovations create an unprecedented boost in methane production:

  • Thermophilic digestion cuts retention times in half, effectively doubling production capacity.

  • Methanation adds up to 80% more methane by converting waste CO2 into fuel.

  • Together, these technologies enable Promex to produce three times more methane than a traditional biogas plant of comparable size.
